On May 11, 2008, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Mother's Day. Over the last year, Boxer Rescue of Albuquerque (BRA) has had 4 moms come through with various backgrounds: Precious (adopted in September 2007) had her pups the day after arriving at the shelter with numerous illnesses to deal with throughout the 8 week period; Lola (adopted in February 2008) was used to breed puppies and had given birth not too long before she was in the shelter (and someone even came in inquiring about her age and whether or not she would be spayed); Penny came in to the shelter so skinny that she surprised everyone with her litter (she is still skittish of people probably from being chased from place to place); and, Soju was brought to the shelter after her pups were only a couple of days old and left in protected custody among the most unadoptable dogs (one of the pups died from pneumonia).
Although we are able to help Penny's and Soju's puppies find loving homes, we also need to place these two wonderful moms in their new home. After some time of weaning the pups, both moms will be spayed and ready to go. Please remember that although there is only one official Mother's Day, both of these moms will consider it their day when they move to their forever home.
