Harlowe's Happenings (Updated 11/02/2010) Meet Harlowe, she was left at one of the fair grounds in eastern NM and was picked up by Animal Control. More than likely she has a severe case of mange (the dead spots all over her body) and was completely undernurished. Fortunately, she was tagged at the shelter and picked up after spending 10 days there (which didn't help in her stress level and healing process). But now she is in Albuquerque and will be checked by the vet on Monday (10/18). She has already been given a thorough bath and has been eating a no-grain puppy food, lots of chicken and rice and a few supplements to help with her immune system. She is probably 6 to 7 months old, will get her complete round of shots to ensure that she will be healthy and ready to go to her new home. Harlowe is one highly energetic female; already going for daily walks (for at least an hour) and tries to play as much as possible - although her foster dad is trying to make her sleep more to keep her healthy! Even though she has not been to our vet, the overall diagnosis should be positive; while understanding that there could be a possibility that the disease could be more severe than originally thought. If you are interested in helping out Harlowe by donating towards her care or by taking her in in a foster-to-adopt situation, BRA would appreciate the support. You can click here to donate with Google Checkout or email us to get more information about this sweet girl! With your donation, please indicate that you want your contribution to go to helping Harlowe and know that every penny that is donated to the rescue goes directly to the dogs in need - everyone in the rescue volunteers 100% of their time. Of course your donations will provide direct support to Harlowe but so will your thoughts and prayers for her to recover. Please keep an eye on this page as we will update it with current information and new pictures as she heals. (10/19) Harlowe's appointment yesterday confirmed that she just has a really bad case of Demodectic mange (the non-contagious kind - click HERE for more information on Demodectic mange). So, as soon as she got home, she must have known and she went on the "attack" with SuzyQ, Milan and Mitzie. They played and rough-housed for most of the day. She is eating very well (high-quality puppy food, raw eggs, chicken and brown rice), getting her meds and will need a few good baths over the next month. But, she should be ready to go in about 10 days or so. She will be at PetVet along with SuzyQ on Saturday the 23rd if you want to meet her. (11/02) Harlowe is healing everyday and her scars are disappearing. She is still learning (slowly) about where to go when she needs to go! But, it may be some stubborness and some puppy/mommy training (or non-training). New pictures have been taken and she is ready to go. She will be at the Doggie Dash and Dawdle this Sunday; so come meet her then. |
